George was born on 25 January 1784 in Windlle, St Helens.  George's father was Richard Pinnington and his mother was Margaret Webster.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Pinnington and Elizabeth Barrow; his maternal grandparents were John Webster and Eleanor. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Charles, John, George, Richard, Richard, Richard, Henry, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Catherine and Jane.  He was the nineth oldest of the twelve children.
