Geoffrey was born in 1745 in Skelmersdale and his baptism took place on 24 November 1745 at St Paul & St Peter, Ormskirk.  Geoffrey's father was Charles Pinnington and his mother was Elizabeth Barrow.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Pinnington and Elizabeth Hewson. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Richard, John, Gabriel, Geoffrey, Charles, Alice and Betty.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 4 on 2 May 1749.
