Sarah was born in January 1821 and her baptism took place on 28 January 1821 at St Helen's, Witton, Northwich, Cheshire.  Sarah's father was Benjamin Senior and her mother was Sarah Holland.  Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Senior and Sarah Webb. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Robert, William, Mary, Elizabeth and Catherine.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
