Elizabeth was born in May 1823 and her baptism took place on 18 May 1823 at St Helen's, Witton, Northwich, Cheshire.  Elizabeth's father was Benjamin Senior and her mother was Sarah Holland.  Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Senior and Sarah Webb. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Robert, William, Mary, Sarah and Catherine.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
