Jane was born in 1708 in Litherland, Liverpool and her baptism took place on 14 March 1708 in Sefton, Liverpool.  Jane's father was Richard Pinnington and her mother was Elizabeth Hewson.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Pinnington and Jane Cowper; her maternal grandparents were John Huson and Alice Whittle. She had a brother and three sisters, named Charles, Anne, Ellen and Alice.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
