Edward was born in 1748 and his baptism took place on 30 January 1748 at St Helen's, Witton, Northwich, Cheshire.  Edward's father was Thomas Senior and his mother was Hannah Hunt.  His maternal grandparents were James Hunt and <Unknown>. He had six brothers and three sisters, named George, Thomas, Joseph, Thomas, Thomas, Benjamin, Martha, Sarah and Hannah.  He was the sixth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 83 on 8 May 1831.
