Ellen was born in 1710 in Congleton, Cheshire and her baptism took place on 11 April 1710 at St Mary's, Astbury, Cheshire.1   Ellen's father was Richard Comberbach and her mother was Martha. She had a brother and two sisters, named Richard, Martha and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the four children.
