Joseph Henry Bate

Joseph was born in 1864 and his baptism took place on 23 October 1864 in St. Luke's, Chorlton on Medlock.¹ Joseph's father was John Bate and his mother was Emma Foster (Bate). His paternal grandparents were Joseph Bate and Martha. He had a brother named Alfred. He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother named James.

General Notes
- In 1881 he was 15 year old and staying with Henry and Emma. I guessed he was Emma's son and as she came from Runcorn, found Joseph aged 5 and Alfred Bate 4 living with their grandmother, Martha Bate, a grocer in Lowlands Road Runcorn in 1871. In 1861 she was in Top Lane, Penketh wife of Joseph, an undertaker from Cadishead (near Eccles) Lancashire, she was from Croft in Lancs. Emma was their daughter in law, wife of John. By 1891he's in Chorlton upon Medlock, a paint and Paperhanger, married to Ellen Slater aged 27 from Manchester and the father of Lilly 3; Ada 2 and David Henry aged 5 months. He also has staying with him Martha Griffiths and although it says Mother in Law I think it may be his grandmother as she says she's from Cadishead and she's 67.
