Richard was born in 1717 in Congleton, Cheshire and his baptism took place on 26 January 1717 at St Mary's, Astbury, Cheshire.1   Richard's father was Richard Comberbach and his mother was Martha. He had three sisters named Martha, Mary and Ellen.  He was the youngest of the four children.
