Catherine was born on 12 February 1859.  Catherine's father was James Bohan and her mother was Bridget Cannon.  Her paternal grandparents were James Bohan and Catherine Gilheeny. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, James, John, Maria, Winifred, Ellen, Ann and Bridget.  She was the sixth oldest of the nine children.
