Mary was born in 1866.  Mary's father was Peter Pimblott and her mother was Sarah Tomlinson.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Pimlott and Sarah Robinson; her maternal grandmother was Anne Tomlinson. She had four brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Peter, Isaac, John, Elizabeth, Alice, Catherine, Sarah, Louisa and Eliza.  She was the second oldest of the eleven children.
