Martha Oakes

Martha was born in 1763 in Newbold Astbury, Cheshire. Martha is no longer alive.

General Notes
- Born about 1771, from Newbold Astbury, Cheshire (from marriage record in LDS IGI)
  
  Newbold Astbury is an old name for Astbury itself (Wikipedia) and appears in the Domesday Book.
  
  There is a christening record for Martha Oakes on
  19 Dec 1777 at Church Lawton in the IGI, but this would make her only 14 at the date of her marriage to Joseph Furnival (9 Oct 1792), so is probably incorrect.
  
  The new FamilySearch pilot has the following Cheshire baptisms for Martha Oakes:
  1 Jun 1755 in Church Minshull
  15 Oct 1758 in Bunbury
  3 July 1763 in Alderley
  2 Jun 1765 in Bunbury
  11 Jan 1775 in Chester
  29 Oct 1775 in Middlewich
  
  There is also a christening for Matty Oakes in the IGI on 2 Nov 1771 in Leigh, Lancashire, which is a more likely date, but Leigh is about 33 miles from Astbury, so it is a fairly unlikely location. Bunbury, Cheshire, is also 30 miles from Astbury.
  
  Of all these, 3 July 1763 in Alderley (12 miles away) seems most likely, but this is just a guess!
