    He was living in 34 Market St, Widnes, when John & Sally died (about 1946), and his two sisters, Annie and Margaret, stripped the house of everything except his bed and his rocking chair. Winnie & Jack Havercan offered to move in to look after him, but had to sign an agreement that they would not evict him. This was when the house was rented. The landlord would not commit to letting Winnie & Jack continue to live there after Paddy died, so they offered to buy the house for £425, with the same proviso that Paddy could stay there until he died. They moved in in Jan 1947.
    
    Paddy acted as a surrogate grandfather to Peter and David. I remember playing underneath his rocking chair, trying to attach Plasticene wheels to the rockers.
    
    Paddy died in Whiston hospital in 1950. It was said that Paddy's spirit continued to haunt the house after he died, and had to be exorcised.
