Sarah was born in October 1899.  Sarah's father was Patt Hoban and her mother was Mary Flanagan.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hoban and Kitty Carney; her maternal grandparents were Hugh Flanagan and <Unknown>. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Pat, Martin, Patrick, Denis, Stephen, Catherine and Ellen.  She was the youngest of the eight children. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Bridget, Mary and Ellen.
