Mary was born on 5 December 1830.  Mary's father was Peter Robinson and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Bowyer.  Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Robinson and Nancy; her maternal grandparents were George Bower and Nancy. She had five brothers and a sister, named Isaac, Thomas, George, William, James and Sarah.
