  John Pinnington was the landlord of the pub on this site in the 1870s, but the pub was rebuilt in the 1950s.

John was born on 1 November 1803 in Halebank, Lancashire and his baptism took place on 27 November 1803 at St Mary's, Hale, Lancashire. John's father was Charles Pinnington and his mother was Martha White. His paternal grandparents were Richard Pinnington and Margaret Webster. He had four brothers and three sisters, named George, William, Richard, Charles, Mary, Margaret and Sarah. He was the seventh oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 67 on 22 August 1871.
