Alice was born in 1716 in Skelmersdale and her baptism took place on 28 December 1716 at St Paul & St Peter, Ormskirk.  Alice's father was Richard Pinnington and her mother was Elizabeth Hewson.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Pinnington and Jane Cowper; her maternal grandparents were John Huson and Alice Whittle. She had a brother and three sisters, named Charles, Anne, Jane and Ellen.  She was the youngest of the five children.
