Mary was born in 1849.  Mary's father was Thomas Pimlott and her mother was Sarah Robinson.  Her paternal grandparents were James Pimlott and Elizabeth Poole; her maternal grandparents were Peter Robinson and Elizabeth (Betty) Bowyer. She had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, Peter, Isaac, Elizabeth, Sarah, Elizabeth and Annie.  She was the sixth oldest of the nine children.
